A LIFELONG STORYTELLER FINDS A HOME FOR HER TALENTS: MEET OUR HEAD OF STORYTELLING

A Pittsburgh boomerang, Caroline is an award-winning brand marketer turned professional Pittsburgh evangelist.

Caroline is the descendant of a great Pittsburgh pioneer, Edward E. Rieck, who started his career with one wagon-driven milk delivery route in the South Side and grew his business to become National Dairy Products. She grew up in Mt. Lebanon, where she enjoyed a beautiful childhood adjacent to Mt. Lebanon Park, and attended Mt. Lebanon High School where she achieved high academic honors and captained the crew team.

Named for the great state of North Carolina, she spent some time there getting her Bachelor’s Degree in English and French at Davidson College, and her Master’s of Education at Wake Forest University. She began her career teaching English and French at a high school in Boston, where she also coached the speech and debate team.

After a quarter life crisis, she moved to New York City without a plan, and found her way into the world of advertising and marketing. She landed a job at the social media agency VaynerMedia, where she worked as a Community Manager on the Dove and Diageo accounts. She then went on to produce social media content in-house for two retail brands, Bonobos and Victoria’s Secret.

As all good boomerangers do, Caroline realized Pittsburgh is one of the best places in the world to live. She moved back in 2018, working as a Marketing Director at creative technology agency Deeplocal, and then a Content Marketing Manager at Duolingo, growing their high-stakes English proficiency exam, the Duolingo English Test.

Caroline’s work has broken sales records, won coveted awards, and been featured in national publications. She’s been both behind the camera and in front of it, and her content has been seen by millions around the world. What motivates her most is a deep love of interesting people and great stories.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Alliance Française Pittsburgh chapter, and volunteers for the Pittsburgh Race to Cure Sarcoma every year. One of her great passions is film, and she is currently in production on a documentary about the city steps of Pittsburgh. She lives in Highland Park with her husband Mac and beloved dachshund, Frankie.

Mission moment

“I joined this organization because I want my life’s work to be meaningful, and there’s no place I love more than the city of Pittsburgh (except maybe Paris).”
