The Intersection

Solve the unresolved.

Pittsburgh has some tricky intersections, yet we’ve learned to navigate them—taking a “Pittsburgh left” when we’ve got somewhere to be. So, when the place to be is the future, why aren’t we sure which way to turn?

The Intersection, powered by Pittsburgh Tomorrow, is a provocative forum inviting our most vibrant thinkers, leaders, and influencers to engage in themes shaping our future. We’re bringing together a cross section of society to get bold, new ideas flowing to move the region forward.

PITTSBURGH AND THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY

Pittsburgh. What does it mean—to those of us deeply rooted, freshly arrived, or curiously looking on from afar? As we wrestle with envisioning our future, the question of identity is core. How can we establish (and rally behind) a shared sense of meaning by considering our memories as well as our dreams for this place?

  • Who are we?
  • Who do they say we are?
  • Who do we want to be?
  • Who will they let us be?

Over the years, we’ve adopted many identities, often driven by external forces—exploration, conflict, and industry. Join your fellow Pittsburghers as we dive deep into the heart of our place. To help, we’ve enlisted the perspective and insight of voices across brand identity, emerging industries, built environment, and community life to unpack the perception and reality behind the idea of Pittsburgh. Let’s solve this identity crisis once and for all.
